Aquatic Frogs?

sweetguava Dec 07, 2006 07:12 PM

I've been looking into getting an aquatic frog. Is there anything out there more interesting than the african dwarf's that they have at most pet stores. Either something more colorful or bigger. I thought an African clawed frog would be perfect, but then I heard that they're illegal in Oregon. (Where can I find that out for sure?)

Any suggestions on a good aquatic frog?

Thanks

If you can find pipa pipa's (suriname toads???) or budgets. Both are aquatic but are not very colorful. pipa pipa's kinda resemble a big brown leaf and budgets are usually a olive green but are so ugly that their pretty cool. Do not own either myself. I personally own clawed frogs. Check your local walmart, If they are legal, your walmart will most likely have them? Mine carries them... Jon

have you ever kept frogs? many think african dwafr frogs are interesting. suriname toads are the only other aquatic frog i can think of, but if you've never kept any other kinds of aquatic frogs i do not suggest getting one. they are EXTREMELY RARE and are pretty pricy. make sure you do yoru research before getting one cause from what i've heard they're not the easiest frog to care for.

Ive kept African dwarf frogs. Not a good pet to be honest. He was cute though. Suriname toads are not rare or pricey. One pops up about once a week in the classifieds. They only run about 100 bucks. Budgetts frogs are not aquatic. They are semi aquatic. More so than pac-mans. They run about 75 bucks but are a little harder to find than suriname toads. Just check the classifieds.
African clawed, not dwarf, frogs are ok pets just not handleable at all. Less so than other frogs. They are very easy pets and are easy to find. They also come in albino. You can read the REPTILES USA 2006 article on them for info. The easiest of these 3 to find and care for are the African clawed frogs. Well, good luck if you get any of them! Also, I finally loaded my Jeff Corwin pics! Ill post the rest of them in the forum and gallery tonight! Merry Christmas!

yeah, i've kept african dwafr frogs too and i thought they were great pets, easy to care for and cute. it's an opinion, if you are going to say they aren't good pets at least give reasons.

ok, but last time i checked 100$ for a frog was expensive. seriously, the only frog i can think of that is more than that are some galacs or thumbnail darts. and a lot of people don't want to get live animals shipped. it's 40$ average the 100 $ for the frog is 140$, you think thats cheap for one frog? thats not even including the set up. you could get two whites and a complete set up for that. i never said Budgets frogs were aquatic, the other person did.

$100 for a frog is ridiculous!
