Does anyone have a list of states that have laws against certain reptiles and what those laws are? I would love to know and it would also help anyone thinking of moving, this way they know the laws.

In MO you need no special permitts to keep or collect up to five native reptile species. The w.c. can not be sold or bred. If you plan to keep more than five or if you plan to breed your captive bred stock you must obtain a class 1 permitt. You must also provide proof of purchase at time of annual inspection. No permitt is needed to keep or breed anything not native to MO. Hotts are a different story.

You may want to check out "A Field Guide to Reptiles and the Law" by John P. Levell. Unfortunately laws change constantly, so this book may not be up-to-date. In addition to state laws, cities have laws as well. For example, here in Cleveland, Green Iguanas are regulated and considered "dangerous."

If you have a particular state in mind the "Herp Law & CITES" forum can get you directed on where to look for your area's laws/restrictions.

i know VA has some weird laws. but i can never get a 100% positive answer. some people say i'm breaking the law by having miami phase, some say i'm breaking the law b/c i have kings, some say i'm breaking the law b/c of my black rats. truth is... until you find someone who can 100% prove to you you are breaking the law and i have friends who are cops, natural people, etc. and everyone knows about my animals and loves that i care for animals that others here in VA would take a shovel too.
