How's moss on the bottom of crestie cages, like that used for frogs? I'm thinking of making a planted cage when I get it built, so I was just wondering. Thanks!

My understanding is that moss is just fine, but i personally prefer paper towels for their ease of cleaning/disposability. One thing that doesn't seem to get discussed a lot here, and that people new to cresteds should know (which I didn't when I got mine), is that unlike leopard geckos, they poop everywhere. They do not have a latrine corner, so being able to just pull out the paper towels covering the whole floor of the enclosure and throw them out is really nice.

Yeah, that's why I was thinking moss. Fortunately, with 2 cresties in a 20" squared planted viv, the moss and plants SHOULD get rid of the poop faster than they can build it up, at least that's how it was with the frogs at school. I'm still trying to work out some kinks.

Have you had a crested before? If not, beware, their poop output is more than any creature of that size should be able to produce (at least, that's what it seems like every time I clean out mine's cage ).

I keep hearing that Crestie's poop everywhere, but both of mine have their prefered corners... are mine just freaks? LOL! I can't seem to totally potty-train my dog, but my cresteds are there.

Will you come train my crested gecko? Pleeeeease! She goes EVERYWHERE! Even in her hide! Onto her humidity gage (yup, that'll mess it up permanently) But worse yet, because we added a screen box topper to add more space... well, let's just say that, because it isn't solid walls, she can now poo OUTSIDE the enclosure with proper aiming.

I should have gotten another leo... they are so well behaved! And about 1/5th the poo production! J/K I love my "poo-ey" gecko just the same.
