bumble bee

evercraig190 Dec 08, 2006 09:21 AM

im trying to figure out why a bumble bee is so expensive..isnt it just a pastel and a spider combo...which both of these prices have dropped tremendously and they are co-dom traits..is it the probability factor or am i missing something? thanks..

The pricing on spiders as well as pastels just came down this year...So the people producing Bumble Bee's breeders are at least 2 to 3 years old and the pricing on pastels and spiders alot more then..You need to remember that just because you purchase a pastel and spider this year(06) they(the female) wont breed until 2008.under normal conditions.Hope this helps

In my opinion, you are paying for the saved time that a bumble bee can offer you. It would take 2-3 years to produce bumbles if you purchased an '06 Pastel and '06 Spider and that is if you are lucky on hitting your clutches. Purchasing a Bumble Bee will save you this time and aggravation.

I don't think they are high at all. Have you seen the combos they can produce??

What do you consider exspenive? I think the price is pretty low right now. If you were to buy a spider and a pastel you would spend around a $1000. You then have to raise it up for at least 2 years. Then you hope your snake breeds. Next you have to hope your snake produces good eggs. Then you have to hope you hit the odds and actually produce a Bumble bee. I would rather pay the money for the Bumble bee and save 3 or more years.

The going rate for a Bumble Bee is very reasonable when you consider it as an investment quality ball python. It has endless opportunites and can produce some high end morphs that have an asking/selling price of 5 figures.

Go and buy a spider and a pastel, raise them for two to three years ,then breed them and hope you get a bumblebee and then tell me what you think it is worth. Also A bee produces bees spiders and pastel when bred to a normal.Terry

In my opinion they are still one of THE MOST BEAUTIFUL morphs out!!

ballzy Dec 08, 2006 05:33 PM

I have never heard of anyone talking about the head shaking in spider crosses. Does anyone know if it still happens in the crosses?

joshhutto Dec 08, 2006 06:24 PM

as sure as I'm sitting here they do. One of the worst wobblers I've seen was a spinner blast, so 3 majorly outcrossed morphs and the head wobble was still there, looks like it's not caused by inbreeding but is linked to the spider trait itself.

Bees are holding their value because they are the result of a co-dom x dom hence the name designer ball. Pastels and spiders on the other hand can be produced by a co-dom/dom x wild type, hence a rapid drop in value.
Plus if you breed a bee to a pastel you have a shot at a killer bee (wow). A good investment indeed.

To be honest i think bumbles are expensive because of my lack of affordability but yall are right, they are pretty cheap considering the amount of time and energy put into actually making one of these great looking snakes..thanks again for replying to my post, now i have to make a decision on what exactly to buy...
