Treatment for scale rot?

amelthia Dec 08, 2006 09:58 AM

My female blood has a few brownish colored scales on the tip of her tail that appear identical to some pics I found online of scale rot. I've never had this problem before but I read that its caused by excessive moisture or bedding that is difficult to clean making the cage unsanitary. Her humidity is right around 75% and she's on newspaper..so I don't know how she got it. The discolored scales don't seem to hurt her and she has been eating and acting normally. She is in shed right now..probably tomorrow or the next day, should I take her to a vet or see if they shed off (if thats possible) with the rest of her skin? I'll post pics later.
Thanks,
Kim

Nevermind, the bad scales came off with her shed.

Just make sure your news paper isn't oversaturated for long periods of time and especially after they pee, sometimes this will turn there under belly scales brownish color.Learned that a few years ago, just have to stay ontop of cleaning and montering conditions.
