Twas the end of the season,
when all through West Texas
Not a reptile was stirring,
the cold was the reason.
The snake hooks and lights were all packed away,
in hopes that spring would come back someday.
The alterna were coiled all snug in their holes,
while dreams of Sceloporus crept through their skulls.
And the herpers all weary of fussy neonates
had settled their snakes in the dark to brumate.
When out in the desert
there came so much snow.
It lessoned the drought
and sent moisture below.
But the cold, it still sapped me,
and left me quite bummed.
“Oh God, I miss springtime”,
I quietly hummed.
Then, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but the GBK forum with folks far and near.
All of them helpful and eager to share
stories of herping and reptile care.
More fun than field guides and care sheets - they posted,
and I read every entry the forum had hosted,
From Forks, Antelope, Alterna, and Bobassetto,
from Fraser, LBenton, Atrox, and Coach,
From Troy H, BChambers, BlueKing, and JeffB,
from Beckwith, McMartin, Aaron and, Elaphe
From GMerker, Reako, Haase, and the late MChambers.
From years of field herping,
and captive reptile care,
From a lifetime of learning,
they willingly share.
They share how to herp,
and care for non-feeders.
They enhance the hobby,
and entertain readers.
They answer tough questions,
and share their insight.
They offer support,
by day and by night.
Keep submitting those posts,
and great reptile shots.
Soon Spring will return,
and we’ll shine all the cuts.
Until then, I thank you
for sharing this site.
Here’s hoping we all spot
lots of herps in the night.
