derekdehaas Dec 08, 2006 02:32 PM

well i went down to a reptile/extoics pet store 2 weeks ago to get some frozen rats and i spotted a 4 foot burmese in a back room and i said where you get that snake? and the owner of the store said a person dropped him/her off, and she fed that burm once a month for 2-3 years and he also said if i wanted him so i held him and made sure if he/she was healthy first sure enough this burm seems fine so i took him with me and i am gonna feed him/her once a week and so far he had 3 f/t already good eater! here's a pics of the first night i got this snake home.

he is now happily housed in a 4 foot animal plastics cage and i got a heat panel coming soon for him, he is better off with me and he will be taken good care of. i can't believe how small he could be for a 2-3 years old, my other burm is extact 1 year old and almost 6 foot long male.

I bought a female burmese a long time ago from a guy who had her in a 20-30 gallon tank her whole life. Her life being six years. He feed her just once every few months.((Sucks right)) Anyway she was just 4-5 feet. Two years later an she is now around 13-14 feet. I think i can get her to 20. Shows what u can do with a mistreated snake. Might i also add that she has a kindness about her that ive never seen.

yeah my new mistreated burmese was in a 20 gallom tall critter cage tank, 24inch by 12 inch floor space. he/she is a very very calm snake and easy going but the only problem is that when i take him out to handle he pee lol he will grow out of it. may i ask how much did you feed your mistreated snake that was too small for her age? right now i am doing med- large once a week. thanks. ps i bet we can relate with our snakes that was mistreated, good to have somebody like us.

I know that in males/females when their scared they will spray you. I had a 14 foot rock male that did it alot. You just have to figure out whats scaring them and go from there. I feed her two jumbo rats a week, but she handled it with know problem. Some snakes might not like two, maybe just one. Its all on them far as how much they want. Today she eats about 5 pounds of chicken every week or so. Plus a BIG rabbit once a month. ((Rabbit 8-10 pounds)) But like i said before she can handle large meals with know problem and loves to eat every week or so.

wow what a food giver you are! lol, i thought that when a snake grow to over 10 foot plus and over 3or4 years old we are suppose to feed it once or twice a month?

dollarthegreat Dec 08, 2006 08:17 PM

Well i think she has some catching up to do lol. I dont feed her every week. Thats why i said every week OR SO.LOL I do agree with you tho. Shes just a lil different. She still has some size to put on.

P.S. Is your name Derek too?

sometime ago I purchased a burm that was six months old and being fed one small mouse per month. I couldn't believe how small she was. She was really thin and at that time not that agressive. I brought her home, fed her three mice immediately. I took her to the vet who suggested I feed her six adult mice until she got some bulk to her then up her gradually. When I gave her to a friend about a year or so later, she was 9 feet long and cantankerous as all get out. NO amount of handling would calm her down once she hit a year old. She now resides in Arizona in a very large enclosure and not sure of her length. Good luck on ya baby!
