I've posted about this before, and I'm sorry to be repetitive. Does anyone know of a free webhoster that they use? I'm a kid and don't have a whole lot of cash. In your opinion what is the best free webhoster with minimal ads, is there such thing? I wouldn't mind paying a set up fee, but no monthly fee. If I used yahoo or something, could I post pics, and info? Anther thing, what is the deal with selling stuff. I would have an e-mail me if you want something system, would I have to give money to the government? How would I monitor that? Sorry for all the questions, but I have absolutly no idea what I'm doing. Thanks!

It's been a few years since I looked into free web hosting so my input may well be outdated. Here it is, anyway.

Angelfire.com and 50megs.com are some of the ones that were popular a few years ago. What they're like now, I couldn't tell ya.

You can do a search on Google for "free web hosting" and/or "free web hosting reviews", without the quotation marks, of course.

I don't know if you're aware of a few things about free websites or not, but some things worth mentioning are:
1) Free websites will always have the hosting website's name as part of it. Example: www.mywebsite.angelfire.com OR www.mywebsite.50megs.com.
2) Most do not allow hot-linking. Hot-linking is having a picture on your website and placing a link in a post here at kingsnake.com so that the picture shows up in the actual post and not just a link to the picture.
3) You have no control over the type of advertisements placed on your website.

There are a few more sticklers but these are usually the main ones.

I know you said you were a kid and don't have a lot of money, but, genuine websites are really cheap these days. Tell Santa Claus that you want a website for Christmas. For as little as $25 you can have your very own website, www.otis07.com. $15 of the intial $25 is to register the domain name and $10 for the first month of service. It will cost you $10 each month after that. Surely you could at least find a neighbor that would pay you $10 a month to sweep their porch or whatever.

The prices I listed are actual costs for a company that I've been using for the last 2 years, {url}http://www.hostgator.com{/url] They have software that's easy for beginners like yourself to use to build a website. Fast, friendly service and my site hasn't had any down time the 2 years I've been using them.

There are other good, cheap, web hosting companies, as well.

As far as selling goes, as of now, there isn't any federal regulations/taxes, but a few states charge taxes on e-commerce (Internet selling). Do a Google search for "(your state's) e-commerce laws".

Hope this helps!

Have a good one!

wow, that was EXTREMELY helpful. i knew some of it, but not most. i did google it and the ones on yahoo seemed to be the best. i would't really be worried about the hotlink thing.

it's not that i don't have money, i do, but it just goes into feeding and buying bigger tanks for 25 herps. and getting more.

thanks a lot mike, again, very helpful. i might be back in a few weeks with more questions though

You're welcome!

I can understand that! Nice to see a young man with his priorities straight.

If you post another question and I don't respond to it soon, look for one of my posts and let me know. I don't always look in this section. You can use the "Search Forums" link & enter my username to find me.

Take care!

Did your software come with the fonts or did yougettouse the fonts onyour computer. The reason I ask is I did some concepts for a logo on Power Point on my lap top then when I thumb drove it over to my work computer to work on it (yea thats right, coloring at work!!) the fonts changed because the 2 computers did share a common version of MS office. I had to walk all the way back to my room to my lap top to finish the project.
Otis is a girl.. Just so you know. Duh...
thanks, Blue
