Just look at the cover of the January "Reptiles" for the very best "tongue" shot!!! You can even see the moisture. Shot by a good friend of mine, Josh Ketchum.

I find that the lag time between pressing the button on my camera and the actual photograph taken is much to long. It's a sony DSC-W30. Pic's arn't bad, but the camera isn't what I'd have chosen if I were to get one. What do you guys use?

A little trick I use(doesnt always work) is to blow towards the animal and get a reaction that way. Most times theyll fire at least twice to check the air right after they fire the first flick I snap the shot and catch the second flick.
Of coarse you need to be set-up and ready before hand, try this approach and see how the animal responds ? If you see it works then grab the camera.

I don't have the best cam either but it seems when i have my snakes out if u move your hand around near the snake they flicker there tongue and timed intervals my cam lags too so I try to press it before I actually see the tongue.

Your Dums has a much longer face than mine. Mine has a very short blunt snout, and your's seems to be very pointed. Crazy how much of a difference there is.

I posted that pic may be one year ago, but for some of you who did not saw it, here it is.
It is a shot of one of my columbian T , and as you can see there are no pigment in it, it is tranlucide.
