Is there a way...?

To completely rid a cage of mites? I found a couple in my argentine cage, and used reptile relief spray on both the snake and the entire cage. I heard that they live in dead wood. Is there any validity to that? So far, it doesn't seem that the argentine has picked any up. Luckily, he has been really weird his entire life and just sits in his water all the time. kinda hard for them to get him in there. Any help would be great.

Yup !
Get some NIX from WalMarts and spray inside and out, extend spray as far as you can away from the cage(wall, carpet, floor).
Then hang a pest strip with-in a few feet of the cage and be done with them!
All for less then half the cost of a can of PAM.

I highly recommend using provent-a-mite. Use the product as directed (works on substrate as well as branches etc) and then repeat again in two weeks. This is the method I used and have not had to deal with them since.
I am not a big fan of reptile relief. Provent-a-mite works wonders for me.

is to use a combo. Scrap the Reptile Relief, and get some Zoo Med Mite Off. It is safe to use right after a snake sheds and also on a snake's face. This is the best route to rid the snake itself of mites. Reptile Relief should be used after a snake sheds or in the snake's face. You need a stronger product to get rid of them in and around the cage though. Provent A Mite, Black Knight, Nix, etc. all work. Be sure to remove the water bowl and snake from the cage. Also, it will be most effective if you remove any bedding and cage furniture and use newespaper, butcher paper, etc. for a few weeks. Be sure to follow the directions carefully on any of these harsh products. These products contain chemicals that can cause neurological damage if used incorrectly. Do not be afraid to use them, just be sure the snake does not come in contact with them and let the cage air out before returning the snake into the cage. Mite eggs are tough to kill and the mites will lay thousands of them in and around the cage. And just to be safe, treat two weeks after initial treatment. Just because you don't see them, doesn't mean they won't soom reappear. Good luck. Also remember, any time you buy a new snake, quarantine him/her for at least a few weeks.

Just curious as to why not? I'm pretty partial to it myself. I bought the large 16 oz bottle and loved it so much that I'm about to buy a gallon of it. I think it works great, spray it directly to the snake and bam, wipe off all the mites. I havent had a problem with mites since I first got it but I use it as a preventative now. I actually have the proventamite and dont use that as often, I like the fact that the RR is nontoxic which you cant say about the proventamite. again, just curious as to your thoughts???

that was directed towards, but I'll jump in here. It states on the Reptile Relief bottle not to use it after a snake sheds and not to use around a snake's face. The eyes and nostrils are preferred hiding places for these little guys. Zoo Med's Mite Off is safe to use after the snake sheds and on his face. Neither product is extremely effective for treating large enclosures or around the cage. They are made to treat the snake itself. The aerosol products are made to treat the enclosure and kill the eggs that may have been laid.

with Reptile Relief is it's claim to be "non-toxic". If it is non-toxic, why can it not be used after a snakes sheds or around the snake's eyes? Hmmmm.

I was wondering the same thing, so I talked to the manufacturer rep and she told me that it is non-toxic, but since RR is on the acidic side, they recommend to wait a while so not to irritate fresh skin. As for the head of the snake, they said that it could "clog" the nostrils, if one is not careful. Hope this helps.
