The "false" egglaying deal?

faust16 Dec 10, 2006 09:03 PM

I remember reading when I first picked up my baby veiled about a form of "false egglaying" they do...

She's give or take a year now, and has been doing really good, and is still doing well, just a slight behavior distinction.

She is a much darker tone now...

She spends alot of time moving about her environment, less time basking, like she's looking for something she doesn't have... although this may be just me adding human qualities to animal behavior

She's still eating, albeit less.

And she seems sort of fatter...

I remember the fatness and the darker colors being symptoms of she is carrying eggs?

If I'm totally wrong that's cool, I figured I'd at least post

Cheers,
Faust

For all of my egglaying chameleons I have a container of washed playsand in their cages at all times once they are old enough to produce eggs. This gives them a place to dig to show you that they are ready to lay eggs. Failure to provide a container for them to lay eggs in can lead to eggbinding and eventual death.

For veileds, dark background colors, increased girth, eating less, and moving around or searching the cage are signs that a female has eggs to lay. Does she have a place to lay them?
