Strange scab under mouth

wingert1 Dec 10, 2006 10:32 PM

I got a female I while back that had a scab under it chin for lack of a better term. I did not think much of it. She eats fine and seems healthy in general. Well, now a few more of my girls have the same scab starting in exactlly the same spot. I have looked really close at it and it does not appear to be mites or anything. I will have to take some detailed pics but does anyone have any ideas from what I am describing? Again, it looks like a scab and is on the underside of there mouth. Not on the inside but maybe a 1/4" past the "lips" in the scales. I have never seen anything like it in any of my books. I am getting a little worried since 3 or 4 are now showing the same thing going on.

Thanks for any help!

Kevin

Are you talking about in the fold of skin where there are no scales or on the scales? Some of my animals have had that before. Never seems to be a problem. I dont know what it is, if its them just rubbing around, from the bedding, who knows. Mine all either shed out of it or it just comes off. Let me know what happends and get some pics of it if you can and I'll tell you if its what I've had.

There are two spots in most cases to either side of the flap of skin you mentioned. There seems to be some swelling as well.

My larger females tend to get marks as you describe when they repeatedly use all their strength to try and bust out of their tubs. They get it from the repeated rubbing motion when their chin rubs on the tub. They come off with each shed.

I think thats what mine are from too. I always see them trying to get out. none of mine have had a problem and have always shed off too.
