Well the most common "first snake" are the Corns and Kings. I myself had (and still have) a Longnose as my first snake and it has been challenging since they are not mouse feeders. Buying Anoles each week can become pricey. My 2 new babies are corns (one hypomelanistic and one ghost) and they are much easier to work with and captive care seems to be a breeze compared to my Longnose. Its really going to come down to your preference as to what you like better, and always remember that each snake is an individual. Trust me, after having 2 4 foot long iguanas, the snakes are MUCH EASIER to handle.

Regards,
Jason

Longnose are generally not hard to switch over to rodents. Have you tried scenting?
