does anyone's leos do "butt drags"??

lifeofherps Dec 11, 2006 04:20 PM

iv breed leos for about 6 years now. this year i got a new female and put one of my males with her. out of no wherehe straightened out his hind legs, but his butt on the ground, stuck his tail in the air, and started dragging him self by his front legs. he did that for about 10 or 15 mins, then just stopped like he never did it. in 6 years ive never seen or heard of this. i was just wandering if any else had seen this.
thanks

I've seen behavior vaguely similar to this as mine gets ready to poop. she tends to 'prepare' before firing it off, as it were, but i've never seen her drag herself forward like you describe...

i know exactly what your saying. i have 18 and have seen a couple of them do that. but the only real thing i can say to discribe it, is that it seemed as if he was scenting, or "marking" his territory. it was a wierd thing.

Yes, my male does the same thing everytime I introduce a female to him. I guess his just marking his territory. IMO

Sent marking, to let the new female know that there is a sexually mature and "ready" male near by. The pores release a white waxy substance that they rub on the substrate. Once he has decided that there is enough of his sent around to let her know he exists he will start following her and vibrating his tail to see if she is intrested.

yep that's right. They will also do that if they scene another male, as to mark territory.
