Robyn, I was just curious about your prasinus project. Have you made any more progress? On the site it says youve had viable eggs! Are these incubating? Im excited that some one is attempting breeding these, escpecially you. If you dont have pics of eggs or hatchling or anything, can we see the breeders?
I dont mean to be rude, just excited is all. Also, Im hoping to get a temp gun for Christmas from you guys. Merry Christmas!

there is nothing new to report for Prasinus. yes, we have gotten good eggs, but never hatched any. full term dead babies, yep.

guess that makes the eggs not so good, huh?

i don't do a ton of pics and info on stuff like the Prasinus or Boelen's python because what will i say, that they continue to fail as a breeding project? : )

when we can have true success with those animals, i will share it with the forum. i am happy to talk about the process, and lack of success, with folks in person at shows, or by phone, but i feel pretty ignorant when it comes to those two species, in as much as "how do you breed them with success" for now : )

I think that it is fair to say that discussions regarding failures are just as valuable to our collective learning experience as those which pertain to successes. There is the old adage, "Learn from your mistakes", which comes to mind here.

What's tragic is the fact that most people who participate on such online fora are too embarrassed or insecure to share information on their unsuccessful experiences, failures and mishaps. As a result, few advances are able to be made from such mistakes. If more people were open to discuss their failures, in addition to all of those readily jump at the opportunity to boast about their successes, this hobby would be much further along than it is today.

Varanus prasinus is no exception to this, in fact this hobby can greatly benefit from hearing about and learning from keepers' difficulties and failures with this notoriously difficult and inconsistent species when maintained in captivity.

Personallly, I see your particular train of thought, where you are only concerned with sharing your successful experiences, as a flawed and incomplete logic. There is much to be learned from our mistakes, why not share them with others??

failure and struggle can definitely be valuable, and i do share, by phone or in person, but it is a long and detailed conversation, and covering the different aspects of the failure doesn't often transfer to a forum like this well. that is why i would rather do it through actual conversation, and not typing.

i don't mind talking about it at all. much of our FAQ is about failure and lessons learned, trying to steer folks the right way with our experience in failure, and success : )
