Agkistrodon Breeding

Horridus Dec 12, 2006 11:29 AM

This pair has sucessfully produced hybrid offspring twice now. Four years ago and last year for Mardi Snipes. Since the female has plenty of body weight I put them together last night and they are at it again. Also pictured is one of the male offspring from the breeding four years ago, last photo by Mardi.

Any change you could post a pic of the offspring. I tried this cross many years ago (Eastern Cottonmouth female, Broad Banded Copperhead male)for three consecutive years and always got infertile egg masses, one single fully formed dead baby. It looked much more like a baby Cottonmouth than a Copperhead. My female Cotton was HUGH; always suspected that was part of the problem.

I had a transpecos X florida cross many years ago. From what I have seen the hybrids look more like cottonmouths at birth and take on the hybrid appearance with size. I will get photos of the baby I have here from this year for you, here's the pictigaster x conanti.

Thanks for posting the picture. Nice to finally know what I might have produced had I kept trying.
