Parasite question

Dinathedragon Aug 08, 2003 10:41 AM

Hi, I have a MHD(Dina) and has had her from X~mas. She has been doing great since I've had her,This summer I put in live plants for her to enjoy. The plants were great, but then I noticed that she had mites on her branch and on her plants. I was wondering how I could get rid of them. By the way, she has been VERY moody for the past two days and this just started, and its not like her at all. What do the mites do reptiles? Thanx

The key here is that you just added live plants to her terrarium. This is probably the source of the mites, they are mites that live in the soil and feed on decaying matter in the soil. The are harmless to your MHD. If you notice them getting really thick, you'll see masses of them on a decaying leaf or floating in the water, you can use the Mite powder that is made for use with birds. It is only active dry so don't dust before misting or watering the terrerium.

Adding the plants should be a positive change for the mhd, but it is still a change and could be stressful. She should get used to it and settle back in within a week. If she is showing signs of problems after that I would have a fecal done just to make sure she isn't ill.
