glass thickness for cages?

seacroc Dec 13, 2006 05:54 AM

I'll be making some enclosures that will be housing some adult retics. What thickness of glass is sufficient regarding strength? The sliding windows will probably only be about 12"-16" in height, 3-4 feet long.
Thank you.

1/4" thick and it's a very good idea to use laminated clear safety glass. Also get the polished edges so the glass slides easily in the tracks.

Laminated safety glass has a low strength.

Use 1/4" minimum Tempered Glass. It is approximatly 10 times stronger than standard glass and will turn to "sugar", reducing the chance of injury if broke.
