unchikun Dec 13, 2006 10:06 AM

"All but ageless, turtles face their biggest threat: humans"

i thought that it was a good read -- very interesting bit about how the internal organs essentially don't age.

That was a very well reasarched article and it was a good read.

That book is a fantastic book and I'm surprised it has not been better publicised here in the US.

You can find it here.

Great article.
There was a similar one in the June 2002 issue of Discover magazine where individuals studied specimens of Emydoidea blandingii and Chrysemys picta marginata to find how chelonians do in fact resist age.

I know I have it somewhere, if I locate it I will scan it so it can be shared.

Thank you!

She is an adult North American Wood Turtle. Care is somewhat similar to that of the North American Box Turtles but these turtles are more aquatic.

Here's another

I remember reading somewhere that Wood Turtles are very smart. Able to complete mazes faster than rats when there's food involved.

North American Wood Turtles have been known to be the world's smartest chelonian and yes they have been tested using mazes. I have read that they do it faster than rats but I do not recall food being mentioned. Wood Turtles are escape artists able to climb 6 foot fences. When they don't want to be somewhere they do everything they can to find a way out.

I'm going to cut this off here because we are in the tortoise forum

maybe we can start a new thread in the wood, spotted and bog turtle forum.

like i said earlier, you can tell she's really paying attention to whoever is taking her picture!

If you could find that, that'd be awesome. I also remember the article, but I can't seem to find it.
