Techniques to stimulate young males?

JP Dec 13, 2006 11:55 AM

I've been breeding balls for quite some time now, and I know most of the tricks for stimulating young or undersized males for breeding. In the past, I have introduced them to other males; manipulated the weather (the old window open when the cold front moves in trick); manipulated humidity; timed breeding attempts right after the females shed cycle; etc.

Any other "sure fire" tricks out there? It's super early here for me, but I have a pastel male that goes about 650 grams that I would really like to breed this season. He's producing sperm, so that's not an issue.

Also, how many of you continue to feed the smaller males during the breeding season? For those that do, how do you alter your temp. regimin to accomidate food in the gut?

Try "hand's on stimulation."

I've had success with soaking them in warm water and slowly, gently caressing their bodies from head to tail with my hands wrapped around them. A little extra massaging in the right area (you know what I mean) helps even more.

Best wishes!

LOL, I hope it doesn't come to that...kinda sounds a little creepy.

You're serious, right? If so, I guess I'd be interested in hearing a little more about your technique...I guess?

LOL! That got a rise! (Pardon the pun) Heeheehee!!!

Yes, thinking in human moral terms, or even, perverted thinking, it does sound bizzare. But in true animal husbandry, it's all in a day's work.

I didn't say;
I enjoyed it,
It's the only way to induce breeding,
I do it all the time,
Extract it's hemipenes and satisfy it,
etc...

After having cleaned a horse's sheath on a regular basis, bringing a still-born puppy to life with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, inserting an index finger in the anus of an infant child to remove hardened stool that's causing constipation, and countless other "bizzare" things, slowly & gently caressing a male or female snake's body while it's being soaked, to induce breeding at a desired time or to deal with uncooperative snakes, is a walk through the park.

I've only done it a few times and had good results each time. I've only done it as a last measure or when trying to get them to breed at a time they're not wanting to.

If a person's snake is uncooperative about breeding under natural circumstances, perhaps they should just wait until next season. And if they don't cooperate again, wait until the following season. All the while my snakes could be producing babies.

It can be done for either male or female, or even both.

Evidently, proven breeding techniques used on farms in the old days would shock the britches off of a lot of people in today's so-called "advanced society."

People either want to breed snakes, or they don't. Don't matter none to me. Mine are doing fine.

I do understand the initial shock of my suggestion, though, and I got a kick out of the replies.

Ya'll take care!

I just wanted to clarify that temp drops and daily misting should be implemented prior to this technique. One might could say that they're a vital part of the "wine & dine."

The man makes some valid points. HeHe! I can see it now. All the breeders out there stroking their pythons tonight just to get that 150gr male to breed! No one addmitting their going to try it. LOL

Since he started it,the real secret to breeding is some Hendrix, herb and Boonesfarm wine.Gets them started every time.

HappyHillbilly Dec 13, 2006 05:42 PM

I used that method to produce low-end specimens but now I've moved up a notch or two.

It's gotta be a fine white wine with Frank Sinatra or Perry Como music. Think "class."

Have a good one!

Terry,
I just re-read my first reply to your post and thought that it could be interpreted as saying you were low class. That's not what I meant, by any means. I was just joking around and there's no underlying message.

I know the era you mentioned 'cause I was a part of it, with the exception of Jimmy Hendrix. While Hendrix did break new ground by making interesting sounds, he couldn't even tune his own guitar. Now, Janis Joplin, Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane), Joan Baez, Simon & Garfunkel were a different story.

Just wanted to make sure you didn't think I was taking a jab at ya.

Have a good one!

"sexy snake" song on The Simpsons??? Yes, I remember now. Barry White was singing to all the snakes to help save them from the Springfield citizens on "Whacking Day". He called the snakes sexy because of the way they slither.

Sexy snakes, "whacking" day, wine and massage oil.........this is becoming quite strange.

(All in good fun though)
