Not if it has a top on it.

Depends upon the size and type of hatchling. Very small hatchling species can sometimes squeeze between the lid and lip of the box. Also, take care of the size airholes you make in the box. Snakes can fit through spaces that leave you amazed!

Sand boa hatchlings do well in a well-ventilated shoebox with a lid, but small rats/corns do better in racks where the top of the box is a tight fit with the wood above it, and the air holes in the box are numerous and very small. Just my experience.

What species of hatchlings are you looking to house?

I have my GBK hatchlings in the clear rubbermaids with lids in a rack. So far, no problem. Derek

...on the individual snake and the type/style of rubermaid you're talking about.
The older (#2217 maybe?) ones with flat lids that were very snug worked fine. Some of the newer shoebox clears have lids that can be lifted up at the corners. There are two different lids that are available with those too. One has a center "lip" to snap shut (corner problems) and the other has two "lips" to snap it closed. Pick each one individually.
Of course there are quite a few with the lids already attached and the "snap lock" or whatever styles too.
Good luck.
