That's like keeping a shark with a goat.

well they have never once shown any aggression towards eachother or any feeding response either, i keep them well fed and happy. heck they were basking together for like 1/2 an hour before i bugged them by taking those pictures. they seem to like to cuddle, lol!

Well you're going to have to seperate them for sure when that snake gets bigger.

Hello,

Very clean and organized setup there.

But may I make a suggestion? If it were me, I would honestly seperate them. If it's a W.C. animal (garter), what if, say, down the road the snake develops serious health issues or on a more mild case, external paracites i.e. ticks or mites. Being that the skink and snake are housed together, if one animal gets ill, there a VERY GOOD chance you will end up with two vet bills and/or two animals you'll have to tend too yourself.

I'm personally not a big fan of housing animals together, especially different genus or an entirely different species all together for the main reasons I mention above. The only time I put animals together is for breeding purposes.

But I have to say, I do like the colour contrast in the first pic. It is pretty and interesting to see the contrast of them.

That when I'ved herped in the woods, I spotted a 4ft 10in garter. Right before release, relocating her to a much better area then the nearby main drag, she left me a nice present for my efforts upon releasing the snake by a river; it regurged a bull frog, and then musked me afterwards.

IF by some chance your little yearling reaches that length, I'm afraid your skink will become food, more than likely. I've watch garters from afar, and even spotted one once with part of a newt or a small lizard's foot hanging out of its mouth.

If you value the skink at all, it would be good in the best interest of both animals honestly.

one thing i'm not sure if i added is that they are both rescues from non herp loving folks here in wv. and i should also say i DO fully plan on seperating them soon, but for now they seem to be doing great.

PS: 4'10" is good sized but my father found one in the early 70's in MD that was 2" shy of 6'. and in oregon a few years back i found an approx 5' red sided. but i don't think that my lil guy will get that big
