problems going to the bathroom...

pythonsmile Dec 13, 2006 11:13 PM

when my baby green tree python has been going to the bathroom, it looks like his whole rectum comes out. it seems like he has total control of putting it back in, but the thing that worries me is that he sucks some of his feces back in, like he cant get it out. his tale right near his slit has a little bit of a bulge as well. he recently at his first fuzzy... maybe it was a little to big. should i be worried? is there anything i can do? will it just pass with time? what? or am i freaking out over nothing? all replies will be greatly appreciated. thanks,

Partial prolapse of the rectum during defecation is completely normal as is I would assume a little material not being fully evacuated. The bulge near the vent I presume is the next meal that will be defecated in the near future. My animals can get quite a large bulge before going. Babies of course will go more often. Sometimes several times a week. I'd figure that yours would go approximately once a week. Although I have a Biak yearling that goes all the time even at almost a year old. I would make sure not to feed too often or too large to avoid the chance of prolapse. Make sure your snake gets plenty of water. Bowl and spraying.

the thing that i am mainly worried about is the he is "rectally prolapsing" without even going to the batheroom... every couple hours it just comes out...

I have never heard of that... I would suggest contacting someone like Rico Walder or calling your vet...

Good luck
