Went out today and headed down to the valley to see what was up. Temps were good in the mid 70's after some pretty cool weather the week before. First I drove down 77 and was surprised to see no dor's, usually I see a bullsnake or at least a ribbon or atrox, not even a red eared slider. I did find a few Cnemidophorus, six lined racerunner I think and Holbrookia lacerta subcaudalus, Southern earless lizard. Took a right at Raymondville and went to a few wildlife refuges down that way. I saw a fleeting glimps of the tail of a coachwhip or Ruthven's whipsnake, and a few basking red eared sliders. Not too bad for Dec. 13 but I thought I would see more. And to top off the day, my w.c. female splendida ate her first mouse for me today, previously a dreaded snake eater from Brewster county, Texas. She may have had rodents before in the wild, but never would eat a domestic mouse. I found a wild one and she went to town. LOL, now I got another problem!
