Recommendations on mister/drip systems?

longhorn627 Dec 14, 2006 10:27 AM

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for misting systems/drippers. I am planning on setting up my screen cage this weekend and was wondering what the advantages/drawbacks of different types of set ups were. Also if anyone has any brand that is a good value and has worked well for them. Thanks

Although you can make it your self zoo med's big dripper works great. You can have it dripping through the screen if it is rust proof. What you might find difficult is collecting all the drops in the bottom, personally I find it impossible so I suggest you to make a drainage system.Cover the cage's bottom with pond liner and leave a hole in the middle for the escaping water.Below you will place a bucket.I tell you this cause you said you are making a new cage and this can help you a lot.You can leave a gallon of water dripping all day without worries..

Part of it will depend on how you need to use it. If you will need a mister system to replace hand spraying every day or while you are away from home, an timer controlled system like the Ecologic Technologies Rainmaker is really great. It runs off a 5 gal. reservoir and includes everything you would need to set the system up (pump, pressure hose, nozzles, fittings, reservoir, etc). You can expand the system to spray multiple cages too. Some people base their misters on those perforated hose misting systems used to cool off patios in summer. If you are there to hand spray in mornings and evenings regularly and just want the mister to add humidity between sprayings, an ultrasonic room humidifier might be all you need. You can get them at larger pharmacies or home improvement stores for about $40 and run them with a plug in timer. I found drippers to be a hassle so stopped using them and some of my chams never used them reliably. I hand spray and use a mister system to "fill in" the gaps.
