cages with rock walls

i am thinking about building a new cage and i like those display ones with the fake rock walls in the back for extra climbing and looks. how hard are those to make and what is the cost of them

They're not really that hard at all if you have a little woodworking experience. I think you've seen some of the shelves I set up for our Tegu, and if you review the posts at the Tegu forum I went into a fair amount of detail about how to do it. I used 3/4 inch plywood, covered it with metal lath, and plastered it with a combo of thinset tile mortar and fix-all, and then painted it and sealed it with resin (and water based lacquer can be used if it is not exposed to constant moisture.)

Attach the shelves by either screwing into them through the back of the cage, or mount a small 3/4 inch by 2 inch ledger the length of the shelves and screw them down to it. Then just take random pieces of plywood and add them to the surface in order to add definition and create the effect of rough rocks (do that before you staple on the metal lath and add the plaster.)
