How active should my baby corn be???

dlek00 Aug 08, 2003 12:25 PM

Hi guys, I got an albino red corn snake two weeks ago and was just curious how active he should be (I'm new to snakes). He's a great eater, but all he does is hide on the cool side of the tank in his little cave. I was wondering if the tank could be too hot... so he just goes to the cool side. I have an undertank heater and a 60 watt bulb. If he's not hiding on the cool side he usually burrows under the bedding. Do corn snakes ever come out and just wander around? Also, how often do they soak in their water bowls? Lastly, how often should I handle him to tame him down? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks a lot!

I'm no expert but all of my snakes are usually inactive this time of year. They seem to know when it is the middle of the summer. Of course it was 108 degrees yesterday. They are alot more active late at night. About the only time they stay on the warm end is after they eat. Usually in the hide box for a few minutes then a drink and back in the hide for the rest of the night. They take a dip in the water bowl occasionaly, but usually spend more time under the warter bowl than in it. My wife and I try to handle each snake as often as possible. I think most all of mine enjoy being held. Take yours out often to get him used to you, eventually he'll calm down and will not try to run at every chance, maybe. Good luck
