Bridge Work at the Pecos / 90?

LBenton Dec 15, 2006 01:32 PM

I for one would like to hear more details on this, I remember the bridge work on 277 that did away with all traffic for a season. I looked at the TxDOT website and searched for Val Verde and found nothing about the bridge, there was a proposed bypass (loop) for Del Rio that may very well end up opening some new collecting territory though. Maybe my daughter will be old enough to drive me down there when it is done:

“Under conventional TxDOT funding methods, the project would be scheduled for construction within the next 10 years and built in phases over time, however, the possibility of an alternate funding method submitted by Val Verde County officials- pass through tolling, offers a shorter time frame of one to two years.”

Or plan B would have us using a toll tag to hunt the easement for the first time ever?

But back to the bridge, has anybody else heard anything on this? I would think that the Sanderson Community would have their ears on this. So much of that town is financed by the traffic that is heading along highway 90. That does leave mixed feelings about a quite night herping vs. the financial well being of the town. So we will all have to go stay a week and buy some gas and food there.

Other than maintenance the report mentioned nothing specific on type of work.

Lance you are very astute about Sanderson's potential predicament. The report did mention concern by Sanderson officials upon hearing of the potential length of the closing of the bridge/90.

I get 3 of the tricounty papers here each week. Should I read or hear anything additional I will certainly post the info.

I have not heard anything about the 90 bridge, but the relief route is a big thing right now. Basically it is a loop from South 277 that loops around out toward the base and north to the Y. There are still alot of things to overcome, one being the city telling a land developer to take a hike. Said land developer was going to donate a LARGE portion of the land required. Have not heard word of a possible toll around here. I really do not see much good alterna habitat being opened up if the road is built, but who knows. Time frame talk around here is 3 years.

Now, one project I do find interesting is the pavement of Box Canyon Rd. Technically it has been illegal to hunt the road, as it was a private road owned by the Allen ranch. After much fighting in court the county has purchased the road, and pavement will begin in Jan. I think this one has interesting possibilities.
