HELP! SICK DRAGON

soniclizard Dec 15, 2006 02:09 PM

I will give as much info as possible.

Bio: Female / approximately 400 grams / 3 years old ?

Ailment: Gags (a lot) almost like she's having trouble breathing. Has regurgitaged food for last two weeks. Diagnosted with worms. Slight amount of saliva in mouth.

Changes so far:
Taken to vet / medicine for deworming
Has been removed from original tank to clean tank
Paper towel substrate / warmer living conditions (day and night)
fed baby food / pedilight

What else can I do? What is wrong with my dragon? I have a second dragon a male who has been in the same living conditions (we dewormed him too) who has NONE of the conditions she has.

Hi
you know what kind of deworm he have given ???
i advice parazap check the site so you can read what it is parazap.com
its a herb you make tea from and give that for 1 week then one week not and then again for 1 week.
i have given panacure for 1 year and stil the worms came back .
parazap wil kill the eggs and expel them .
also i advice some good bacterias named achidhopulus .
get in a store where you can buy vitamins for humans on a natural basis ,they selling capsules named probiotics .
put one capsule in a 1/3 of glas water and give that water for 1 week .
you can pull them apart and then the powder you put in a glas.
if you deworm youre beardie then the good bacterias who he need to digest get killed to .
so you need to replace them .
have you vet not told you that ??
parazap wil not kill the good bacterias nutribac have tested in a lab ,nutribac is also some kind of probiotics for reptiles .
but the same you can buy in a store what i told you before its the same bacterias/bacsils.
byeeeee

Parasites could cause gaging and regurgitation but there are other things that can cause these symptoms.

Is your vet experienced with reptiles? What testing did he do? Was he able to do a fecal on a stool sample from your dragon? did he do any blood work, x-rays etc?

Intestinal blockage, stomach infections, parasites or other problems can cause vomiting. Respiratory infections could cause labored breathing, bubbly mucus discharge from mouth (don't confuse with normal spit) as well as loss of appetite. If you don't feel your vet is doing the right thing, take your dragon to another reptile vet for a second opinion.

Also, treating for parasites doesn't happen over night, it takes several rounds of treatments to completely clear out the parasites, typically you administer the medication given to you by your vet (give us the name, as some dewormers work better than others) for a week or two then stop, then do it again a couple weeks later. I am not sure, never had to do it myself.

IN the info you posted you didn't indicate the temperatures of your tank nor your feeding/care habits before she became sick.

Below is a couple links to qualified herp vets, find one in your area and give him/her a call.

You said..."Ailment: Gags (a lot) almost like she's having trouble breathing. Has regurgitaged food for last two weeks. Diagnosted with worms. Slight amount of saliva in mouth"...do you keep the male and female in the same cage? Could she be gravid? Does she have a place in the cage to lay eggs? Did you have a substrate in the cage she was in when this started?

How long have you had her? What do you give her in the way of supplements? What do you gutload the insects with? She gets UVB?

What did the vet say about the gagging and regurgitation?

There is an adenovirus found in bearded dragons, but it seems odd that would appear now unless she was just recently exposed to a dragon that had it or her immune system was not good...I hope that this is not what is wrong with her...
