question for rainbow breeders

wanderinglost Dec 16, 2006 03:21 AM

I was wondering if any of the pros on here come to any of the shows around VA, like the NOVA reptile expo, Havre De Grace, Richmond Reptile Expo, etc. I have been going to those shows for a while, and the Rainbow selection is usually pretty slim. I would love to see some of your animals in person, especially Dave and Jeff. Your rainbows always look spectacular, and I would love to add one to my collection in the future.

Sorry Dustin, I'm a west coast breeder and VA is quite a ways for me to go. Someday I hope to go to Daytona, maybe we can meet there?

Dustin,
...EXCELLENT QUESTION!!! I do not go to any shows except the Daytona Expo. It is a very big show that draws vendors and buyers from all over the world. There are around a half dozen really big good shows in the US every year. The rest of the shows are too small. The competition between all of those small shows makes it impossible for any of them to draw enough vendors or buyers. I used to go to other shows around the southeast. I have been to shows where there were only a couple dozen vendors and half of them were only selling rough looking imported animals. I have been to shows where I sold as few as three snakes. It would be better if rather than a dozen or more shows around the country each weekend there was just one show per weekend. Rather than having the three shows you mention plus the one other show in your area many times a year if they would only have two or three shows a year in the Delmarva area I would gladly come to one of them. Fewer shows would draw more vendors and more buyers and that would make them more worthwhile for both the vendors and the buyers.
Jeff

Hey thanks for the reply guys. I agree all the shows around here are TINY, like you said, very few vendors and a lot of the ones that are there are selling animals in bulk, that look largely wild caught. Pretty much the only thing at the shows you are guarnteed to have that isnt WC are leopard geckos... always the same leopard geckos...at...every...show.... I did pick up my rainbow at the richmond show, but it was one of maybe 4 rainbows at the whole show. I agree, it would be better to have maybe one big show once or twice a year, and that would draw more of a crowd. Hopefully I will run into you guys in Daytona one day, if I can ever get out there.
