Eye problems!

Jules353 Dec 17, 2006 01:40 AM

Ok to start off I know I have been a bad mom to my gecko. Her name is Whitney and she's about 10 years old and is very active. She eats regulary and seems happy. However, she frequently has trouble shedding (she has a humid hide and I mist her cage daily). One time when she had trouble shedding skin stayed over her eyes for about a week. I was afraid to help get skin from around her eyes so I brought her to the vet. They were rude to say the least and said I waited too long (I probably did but the attitude was not necessary). I got medicine and one eye cleared up nicely, lately though, the oher one has gotten really bad and seems swollen or something. I know I need to bring her to the vet again but in the mean time is there a way to tell if she's in pain?

Sorry, the rude vet info might seem irrelevant but it makes me nervous to bring her in again, or to any vet for that matter.

animals try not to show their pain or injurries because of the fact that predators can pick them out easier for lunch. needles to say you probably wouldnt feel very good either if you had a swollen eye and to boot something actually stuck in it! it deffinatly wouldnt be cool if you were a little gecko and had no hands to help yourself. yes im sure it doesnt feel very good and will probably only get worse without treatment. you will either need to take her to a new vet or find a different one if you want to save her life let alone whats left of her eye. ifections spread faster then you think. being as it is her eye it is extremely close to the brain! the infection will either spread or keep swelling up and put pressure on the brain ect,etc... so you need to stop lolly gagging around and fix her. im not trying to sound mean but it is indeed a serious issue! there is nothing you can really do for her in the meantime but maybe try to clean it with water or something like that. this is not a scratch or something like that were you can just put neosporin on it, it is an EYE. good luck. youve had her alive for awhile and she still has a lot of years left dont let her go now.
