Sexing KSB

darkpythons666 Dec 17, 2006 01:59 AM

I recently acquired two kenyan sand boas from two different locals. One said their's was a boy and the other said their's, but they both probe 4-5 scales deep... so what are they? Any kind of related info would be great. Thanks in advance.

Kenyans are easier to sex visualy than by probing. I still try probing some that look somewhere in the middle of male/female and it is difficult. The tail muscles of these animals are strong even as babies and this makes it hard to slide a probe in, even if well lubed.

Hi there Ray - I always like to learn about new sites (and I'd sure like to view your tutorial) but Dang - why do folks require a body to register first before being able to read any posts whatsoever?

I'm often asked about sexing Kenyans. It's fairly easy once you see enough of them and if you have a few to compare to, it doesn't take long to see the physical differences in body structure.

^Here's a little group of some of last years Nuclears. Lets see if we can sex them visually.
Below is an example of a male. Notice the tail length and even taper

Below is a photo of a female. Notice the shorter tail and quicker taper

Now below is the first group separated. Lets have some educated guesses as to the genders of this group. (Not for Brian)
Is it
A 1.3
B 2.2
C 3.1
D 4.0
E 0.4

Thanks for making that available.

And why I keep calling you "Ray" is beyond me I KNOW your name is Roy. Really.

If I probe them, I don't have to make an "educated guess". Granted, when I'm looking at adults, I have no questions. I can tell at a glance, and not just because the females are larger. LOL.

But if your method were foolproof, we should all be in total agreement on the proper answer to your quiz. And I fear we're not.
