A Question of Light

ritchie902 Dec 17, 2006 02:16 PM

Hi, I got a leopard gecko like 3 weeks ago and have had a red bulb on the terrarium for heat. I've read that leopard geckos are fine with having a red bulb on all the time, however I've noticed that her pupils dialate when close to it....will this be a problem with natural diurnal cycles or what. She is feeding and growing well; and shows no signs of things being bad. Just curious if anyone has had experience with using red bulbs as heat....thanks, prob just being paranoid.

Mine doesn't have a problem with his. it is my understanding that most animals don't see red, so maybe your gecko is just squinting because it's a brighter area? Just my two cents.

you are saying that your gecko's pupils are larger when near the light, correct?

Sorry, my bad, they constrict when near the red light so she is "sensing" it in some way. Anyway, i was just wondering if anyone has had a problem in the past....thanks.

well thats different. your gecko can see the light but not to the same degree you can. this is normal.
