small little whtie worms in the water dish

jack Aug 08, 2003 01:13 PM

I found some small (1/4inch long ) white worms in my turtles water dish. I am assuming that they are some sort of parasite from the turtle. I have tube of Panacue dewormer and my question is how much to give the turle. The box says to give the whole tube for a 1500 pound hourse. So i guess its just a small dab that a turtle will get. The directions also say to be sure not to under medicate with the panacure. Can a turtle be over medicated with this? Unless some one has better advice i and going to jsut put a small dab on there favirot food and if later in the summer i see more worms in there water dish i will give them some more of it.

I would not rush into anything until you hear from people on the list. I'm sure that there are people here that have a great deal of experience with this.

You might also read the following link and proceed slowly and cautiously. Lack of caution with this medication could be far more dangerous than the worms themselves.

panacure has to be given in doses like twice one week then twice again three weeks later or something like that.

Also, if you ask your vet (give them the consentration level on the medicine) they can calculate the amount you need to give based on the weight of each turtle.

Though my vet has also said that you cannot overdose them on panacure, so I just make sure to give each of them a good amount, roughly equivalent to the volume of flagyl I give them when I do that (that has to be calculated by the vet, or get the formula for calculating it from your vet and do it yourself, like me when dosing a herd).

For aquatics I would just use a needless syringe and fill up goldfish till their gills leaked with it (gruesome, yes) and they would eat them and the goop in one gulp.
