Melleri Question

vegasbilly Dec 17, 2006 07:38 PM

I've had my Meller's for a month now. LTC, app. 14" s-v. "He's" in a 5'x4'x4' screen cage. He's doing well but I've noticed him "napping" periodically thoughout the day. Is this a normal behavior? I know I'm comparing apples to oranges here, but none of my Veileds or Jacksons ever sleep until lights out.

It just seems like he has a schedule mapped out and at a set time he retreats to the same part of the cage to snooze, well before the timer shuts everything down.

Thanks in advance,

Bill

hey vegasbilly,
that doesn't sound normal to me, it's possible
the ambient temps are too low in your house (winter), that could cause him to "rest". I would double check to make sure your temps are high enough (especially where he goes to rest.) I was also checking out your cage photos, are you using the foam cup as a dripper on top of the cage? Do you also have a mister setup? Melleri need ALOT of water daily to be healthy, at least 30 minutes of mist or rain all over their bodies, even more if you can- (I would say a misting system is almost a must with these guys.)
could you explain your watering regime?
warm wet= happy chameleons.

Thanks!

I do have a mister set-up, Rainmaker system. It wasn't hooked up to the cage when I snapped those pics. Yesterday I upped the ambient temps in the entire room as well. The drip-cups you referenced are just for additional/supplemental watering.

I appreciate the insight/comments.

Melleri often perch in one favorite spot for a lot of the day, but they should just be sitting quietly awake, not napping. If they are stressed about something all the time I've noticed that they will retreat so a "safe" spot and sit with eyes closed as if to blot it out.
