Some male (and female) chameleons need a little help when it comes to getting them in the mood. As long he is healthy and youthful (some older chams will not mate), you may be able to stimulate him. Some breeders will simulate a cool season by gradually lowering temps a little and the chameleon will naturally decrease its appetite. After a period of six weeks or more, the temperature is raised, again gradually. After the chameleon has went through the simulated cool season, this often stimulates them into breeding and courtship practices. Another simple method would be to show the male chameleon his reflection in a mirror for a little while. He may think it is another chameleon and males who are fighting over a female will often pursue the female. Just a couple of tips, but some males just aren't interested.

blupanther Dec 19, 2006 05:15 PM

First of all, my cham breeding experience is limited to veileds, but I now have a pair of panthers. They haven't bred yet because I have only had the female for 3 weeks and am still acclimating/quarantining her.
My question is about how the female is acting. If the female shows the male she is not ready by displaying unresponsive colors or gaping, some males become intimidated. Other more dominant aggressive males could care less how the lady feels and will try to mate no matter what(although I don't allow it since one or both may be injured). Is your female responsive?

he doesn't care either way, if the female is calm or upset. I think I'm just stuck with a non-breeding male, oh-well maybe I'll move him into he house and make him the house pet.

Yes. I have had the same problem with both a male and a female Panther Chameleon. How old was he when you bought him? Where did you buy him?

I'm guessing he's at a year. bought from the chameleon company.

Did they ever come around to breeding?
