Calcium powder for sulcatas.. how much?

holy7cow Dec 18, 2006 09:16 PM

Howdy folks,

I have several sulcatas I keep outside nearly year round here in South Florida.. they eat grass and weeds all day.. perhaps once a month I'll sprinkle some reptile multi-vitamins on a bit of green pepper or strawberry and feed each one. Otherwise all their diet is the yard.. and there is plenty more then they can eat
Here's my main question..
Is there some formula dealing with the weight of the turtle and how much calcium they should be getting.. Does anyone here use calcium powders.. and if so .. how do you know the right amounts? How much is too much?
I suppose I could get by without it because they are all doing quite well with no pyramiding or other negative issues... I guess I feel like they should be growing more quickly.. any info would be appreciated..
thanks-

I do not know of any formulas for how much calcium an animal needs per weight/mass. I just sprinkle calcium on the food a couple times a week. Since your animals are outdoors you could just provide cuttle bone or a calcium block and if they need it they will eat it. Then you don't really need to worry about adding it to their food, they will do that if they need to themselves.
