crested cage?

ATLherp3121 Dec 18, 2006 11:20 PM

I have a cage that is about 5 feet tall. It has 6 sides and is about 1 foot wide. It was ment to be a chameleon cage when it was built. One of the sides is wood (including the door) and teh other 5 sides are wire. The top and bottem are also wood.

I know that cresteds need high humidity. Will this cage be ok for a few cresteds? With the wire sides, obvisouley the humidity wont be retained. Is this ok or do i need to scrap the idea?

I'd say it depends on the average humidity levels in your house. If your house is very dry, it'd probably be a problem. If not, you'd just have to be willing to mist more than usual.

It is certainly big enough for several crested geckos. The two main concerns I can think of is making sure the wooden parts are well sealed and water proofed and lose of humidity due to the screen. As the other posted mentioned depending on the dryness of your home, this can be no problem or a real problem.

Fortunately there are ways to adapt the cage and make it a nice home for your crested geckos. You can cover some or most of the sides with something (plastic, plexi glass, etc) to prevent loss of humidity, install a misting system or keep the room the cage is in more humid by the use of a humidifier.
