Gravid???

cfoley Dec 19, 2006 08:07 AM

Hey guys,

This is my first year breeding boas. I do not know if these pictures help much, but I am sure you can see the swelling in this girl. It is up higher than I'm used to. It can not be an ovulation swell as it has been there for too long.

Her attitude has turned to hell, and she started refusing food. My guess is shes close to going into a shed as well.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks!

When did she lock up last? This is my first year as well with dums although I have produced ball pythons in the past. My girls are a lot thicker bodied than it appears yours is, and I don't handle them during the breeding season unless I have no choice, so I haven't been lucky enough to catch a lump! I've been told that the lump appears a month or two after a successful copulation and it only lasts for a few days. My girls are both acting odd though. They are in perfect coils outside of their hideboxes. They have no interest in anything.

If you suspect she is gravid, it is in the best interest of the snake to not handle it as you could damage the embryos.

Good Luck!
