Armadilo Lizard

naenaechan Dec 19, 2006 12:48 PM

As a starting-herp-fan-type-person, I'm wondering if an Armadillo Lizard would be good for me. They look so cool compared to the other types of lizards. Also, they dont seem to need AS much as an iguana(bad starter, I know, thats what my mom has and as beautiful as he is, he's a brat).

suggestions? Its either an Armadillo or a water dragon. Both are in my budget. ^.^

Thanks in advance!

Water drgaons are bad starter lizards. They deserve a rather large setup (height and width/length) since the are aboreal yet still want to roam the ground, and love to swim and submerge. That means your enclosure needs plenty of climbing areas, dry ground, and water.

AFAIK, armadillos can be fine in a standard aquarium as long as it is large enough. I think they are mainly terrestrial, but search for care sheets on here.

Remember - the cost of the lizard is often trivial to the cost of everything you will need to house that lizard - the enclosure, UV and other special lighting, heat, food, substrate, and so on.
