Speaking of tracks........

I bought some used cages a couple of months back. A breeder I know in socal was retiring from breeding snakes and sold me his entire collection of cages. They were made by Sandmar industries. Made from cabinet grade melamine, they were in darn near pristine condition. These cages were built in the 90's and had been so well constructed and cared for they were well worth it to buy as used cages. Each cage has a pearlco heating element AND flexwatt floor heating and dual thermostats, one for each overhead and floor heating element

Anyway, they have in interesting sliding bypass door track system. All aluminim tracks, full surround, even the sides. There is another aluminum piece with wheels on the bottom of the doors. These doors roll with almost no friction. With the side tracks, when the doors are locked, there is no way you can remove the glass short of breaking it.

The door locks are unique as well, there is a round hole in one door with a metal keyslot. In that keyslot is a mathckin keyhole shaped split tumbler. The end of the lock mechanism turns 90 degrees so when you can remove the key, the tumbler piece stays in the hole.

A couple of pics:

I have a total of six 4' x 32" all 2' tall, and two 6' x 24" one 2' and the other 32" tall.

Those are nice. Looks like they're well made and been taen care of, for sure. Oughta match the ones you've made pretty good.

I like the side tracks idea, that would add extra strength for large snakes pushing against it, plus, security for expensive or "hot" snakes.

Thanks for sharing!

I think one of the biggest downfalls to melamine was when us DIY types started using the cheap melamine foil stuff from home centers and had problems with it. The cabinet grade stuff often costs the same and is so much more durable.

I think Alan from Jungle Habitats has used this track and has even posted a link to the product he likes on this forum. I'll see if I can get him to respond.
