Usually, when a snake is mite free and housed in an environment where no other snakes from questionable sources are introduced, they remain mite-free. But if you frequent pet shops, or hold other people's snakes, the mites could hitch a ride back home on you. All it takes is one pregnant female mite to drop off and deposit her eggs in your home. Whenever I go to pet shops I always strip down upon arriving home, wash my clothes in HOT water and take a lengthy shower. I haven't had any mites since the late 80's and I want to keep it that way. Thankfully I almost never have to go to pet shops! Maybe once a year at BEST.
>>Well, I recently found two mites on my burm...she is nearing 4months old, and never had them before. I cleaned out her cage and used some de-mite'd her and the cage so all is good now. Could they come off the mice I fed her, or the carpet, or the grass outside? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
