They are not. Reticulated, Burmese, Australian Amethystine, Rock Pythons, and all species of Anaconda are the ONLY boids that are banned in NY.

ballfreak Dec 19, 2006 06:03 PM

are you 100% about that? i really wish that was true but i know its not. everyone i know in ny says the same.

toshamc Dec 19, 2006 06:21 PM

I don't live in NY but from what I understand they were illegal a few years back with the new legislation that included everything in the boid family - but I beleive in the past year then there was a change to the legislation where only the bigger and venomous snakes were made illegal. I would check with your local and state legislations to be 100% positive - this stuff is changing every year - your local herp society should be able to tell you also what is and is not legal - needs permits or can be grandfathered.

I am 100% sure in regards to NY STATE, NY City may have their own regulations. Each burrow may have separate regulations.

That's ALL??

Gee, that takes just a "few" away from what you can keep!

Ummmmmm.... can we say "You Suck" to New York?

Go say it to your mother and if she smacks you, then you said it RIGHT!

Suck, is that all? They definitely do!

I had to sell my Yellow Anaconda when I considered going to school in NY, and now that I do I can't get another or some of the other animals I was considering.

Ball Pythons are not illegal in NY. That is a fact. I live in upstate NY and own 4 of them. They are available for sale at both pet stores and reptile shows. Whoever told you they are illegal has no clue what they are talking about.

As Chris stated, only the large boids he listed are illegal in NY.

ballfreak Dec 19, 2006 06:28 PM

i meant to say illegal in nyc the five boroughs. thats as far as i know. i would be so so so happy to know that they are legal now in the boroughs.

toshamc Dec 19, 2006 06:59 PM

Definately check your city laws - I just read in the herp law forum that New York City Law still has a ban on BPs even tho State law changed to the larger boids. I'm not sure if that effects you or not.

i am 100% sure that balls are legel to own in ny state...

ballzy Dec 20, 2006 12:09 AM

So everyone in New York is running around ball-less?

morphed Dec 20, 2006 07:10 AM

I dont know about the actual city but as far as the state they are not illegal. I know a good amount of big breeders in the NY state that have easily 100 plus animals at the facility and they have never had any problems. I know you can buy them in pet shops out of the city also. Plus i vend the Long Island herp show and the White Plains Show and i sell ball pythons at both and so does every other vendor, and they are strict about illegal animlas such as Burms and large monitors.

i made a big mistake saying ny i meant nyc bouroughs. i will make a call today to see. thanks for your reply.

I have copies of the NYC and NY State Laws regarding reptiles.
The State law bans the big guys; burmese, etc., moniters, etc., but does allow for pythons, boids, that stay below 8'.

The NYC law bans all boids, pythons, regardless of size potential. This is because the NYC Dept. of Health sought out only the NY Herp Society's "expert" opinion. Don't know what exactly transpired, but the Health Dept. took the shortcut route of excluding All Boids and Pythons, and other decisions that weren't thought out too well. As usual it only takes a few morons to ruin things for the majority.

I tried contacting various lawmakers, but they showed no interest whatsoever.

Mike
