this may not be a big issue, but up until now my king has been so inactive and now that he has eaten he has gone to the other extreme! is this normal?

Yeah, he is going thru the " high " of eating, and is now excited. My kings do this when they get fed. A lot of times, they are just cruising the cage after they eat. It stirs them up. Leave him alone and do not handle him until 3 days after he eats, to avoid the chance of regurge.
Also, what are your temps? Sometimes if the temps are too high, they can get restless as well. 80-82 has always worked for me.
