hey... timor monitors dont get big... actaully they are like a dwarf monitor. ive notice keeping them in an arboreal set up works really well... they can be pretty skittish. the biggest one ive seen was maybe close to 2 feet.they are very pretty monitors.good food source for them would be large insects and small mice like pinkies and fuzzies.

care for the Timors is no different than for Ackies, or any general monitor theory, really.

check out the Ackie caresheet at our site, and pick up a copy of the Savannah Monitor book by Bennett, it covers the most up to date monitor husbandry in print, and 98% of it would absolutely apply to your Timors.

well, except for the part that in a well set up cage, you will actually see the Savs, while you wouldn't ever see the Timors...

my timors liked a lot of hiding places - I set up the viv like a forest. Lots of climbing opportunities, lots of cork bark and lots of plants.

I kept them fairly humid and sprayed once per day with a constant supply of fresh water in a water bowl.

My female was more than 2ft in length, the male about 18" or so.

While shy, I found that with plenty of cover the animals actually became quite outgoing and would take food from tongs.

They would alwys bask on a log and never on the floor.

For substrate I used fine grade orchid bark.

Food comprised 50% rodents and 50% insects, mainly morio and locusts.

Mine are 2 years old and I keep them in a 66 gallon mesh reptarium. I feed them roasted turkey, scrambled eggs, crickets and a f/t mouse every 2 weeks. The Female never comes out when Im in the room but the male will actually grab me by the arm when i place the food in. They are actually mating right now.

A Reptarium? How do you get such success w/ that? In my very limited experience with generally hardy ackies I had a heck of a time getting humidity to workable levels in a glass cage that was 3/4 covered. Is it a humid room? Do you have a constant mist? Congrats on the mating.

yes a reptarium. i spray twice a day and it works out fine. I have two of the fattest, healthiest timors so if im doing something wrong, I'm all ears
