x-mas corn

nydon Dec 20, 2006 07:48 AM

well, I got an answer to my ghost corn here so i figured i would try another question. Since it is the christmas season I thought i would ask about this corn. I bought it as a x-mas corn and love the pattern and colors but am curious because I have never got anything definitive on what exactly makes an x-mas corn. Also if anyone can tell me if this is what this is or is it something else?

Thanks,
Don

It does look like a nice normal aztec corn. As far as the Christmas corn morph, I have read in I think was one of Bartletts books on corns and ratsnakes that the Christmas morph was developed through selective breeding of insular corns found in N. Carolina (if I remember the location correctly as well LOL). The Chrismas line supposedly replaced the black blotch borders by a greenish color. I never did see a good photo of a classic example of this morph to say it truly had the back replaced with a greenish color.

I would have to agree, that looks like a normal aztec. The christmas corn expresses a simple recessive hypo-like gene, its origins are traced back to Daufuskie Island in South Carolina.

I agree with the others - Aztec. That one not only has a nice pattern, but it has retained some good contrasting colors as well.

Very nice.
I'm still learning all the various colours and morphs so was very pleased with myself when I quessed the same as everyone else hehe
My snake is also a christmas corn, but only coz it was my pressie 2 years ago! As far as I know she's a normal okeetee but I've yet to figure out how to post pictures.

Happy christmas all!
