pics of concrete pond re chris harper

Thanks to those who responded with help regarding the concrete for this project. I ended up using 160 pounds of concrete. Chris, I liked the DryLock so much I decided to paint the walls and floor with it, a different color of course. As you can see I still have much work to do but I wanted to share the progress so far.

Looks very good. Thanks for the update.

Now some questions...

What kind of concrete did you end up using?

Is that the standard grey drylok or did you have white tinted to your personal specs?

Lastly, is the texture on the pool mainly from the concrete or mainly from the drylok? I remember drylok going on fairly smooth but have heard a lot of people say the finish is very textured.

Keep us posted.

I used Vinyl patch cemet, which basically was a portland/fine sand mix with a polymer already added.

It's the standard gray which I thought was just right. Just a note, due to the consistency of DryLock, at least my local HomeDepot does not mix tints, they say it messes up their machine. I don't know if that goes for all their stores.

Lastly, is the texture on the pool mainly from the concrete or mainly from the drylok? I remember drylok going on fairly smooth but have heard a lot of people say the finish is very textured.

I think the texture is mainly from the concrete. I think it dependes how you apply it. I used a roller on the walls and it came out very textured with a sandy/beady texture. I used a brush for the pond and it is much smoother. If I add a couple more layers it would more than likely become much smoother. But obviously I wanted some texture.

Thanks again for the tip, I think this stuff is going to change the way I build/finish cages.

Looks good Paul!

How thick, on average, did the cement end up being? How many coats?

Thanks!

First it looks great but will look way better with something in there. LOL

With Drylok it is hard to mix due to the consitancy its not just your store. The shaker can't handle it however, you can have them add the color and mix it yourself. With either by hand or you can use a morter mixer attachment for a rotary drill. I havn't done this but I would imagine this whould be the best route. I mixed mine by hand, helps build forearm strength.

Best of Luck
