question on why my adult female wont eat

hawiiangecko Dec 20, 2006 05:32 PM

i have a 1.1 pair of adult columbians. a month ago, i tried to feed both of them and they both refused. two weeks ago i tried again, same results. today i tried one last time before seeking help and my male took his rat with vigor, my female struck at it, struck two more times, then opened her mouth and started hissing like crazy. she smelled the rat, but took it as a threat i guess and wanted nothing to do with it. she's got a bad temperment to start off with but she's never done anything like that. its been over a month since she's eaten now. she seems to be in good health and her enclosure is clean and has clean water, its been cold because its winter but they have heating pads on and have been using them on and off. i hope she's just not hungry. should i bring her in for a vet check, or wait a little longer?
any hlp apreciated

Maybe she has other thoughts on her littel pea brain. Have you tried putting them together to satisfy her cravings?

If this is not caused by the desire to breed, then try leaving the item (pre-killed of course) on a dish in the cage or feeding tub, and either cover the enclosure so they don't see movement or leave the room for an hour or more.
