Are males harder to sell?

Starling Aug 08, 2003 03:07 PM

So my incubator got a bit too warm and some geckos I intended to be female are male. I have no worries about the tang albinos, it may be even more desirable to potential buyers that they are male. But a couple are het albinos from my reduced spotting yellow-normal. One is dark (in opening post about sexing below), another is lighter and developing orange highlights, looks like will be significantly reduced spotting.

Will these be harder to sell because they are male? Or are there plenty of people who would like a het albino male? As females I could always sell them in groups w/ a tang albino male, but as males will need to sell singly.

Yes through experience I found that males are much more harder to sell then females. It makes sense logically since you can breed one male to around 5 females and have no problems. The only males that sell well are the top of the line geckos. Its hard to sell lone males, but its easier if you sell them in pairs or trios with more females. You should incubate all simple reccesive morph babies as females because males dont sell at all. Hope that helps.

That's about what I thought. I was incubating as female...it just didn't work out that way...got a bit too warm. Well maybe I will still get a few het babies that are female I can pair with them.

You can sell them at a show. I sold all my males at the first show this year. I had a harder time selling females! You can also sell them to a pet store. I have several places that will take my "extra" leos. They don't care what I sell them but they don't pay very well either, so they just get the normals. hehehe!

And do you know of any one source to look for upcoming shows in my area? I live in San Francisco, CA

Thanks!

Don't know the cost but IRBA is having another show at the San Mateo County Fairground in September. Check out their web site: www.irba.com

I see it's $160 for a standard booth or $210 for a corner booth. You can also split a booth for $75 extra. And electricity if needed is $40.

Hmmm.

thats a good deal. the san diego IRBA show is like $260 for a standard, or maybe thats corner.
