Very nice snake. I had a Cal King for a number of years and they're great. Good luck with him. The tank appears to be on the small side, but I'm sure you'll put him in a larger one down the road. Is there a hiding place in there for him, maybe behind the water bowl? They really need that quiet place to spend time. I always used a rock cave and as he got larger I got a larger one until later years he had the largest cave available. A 20 gallon tank is adaquate, but you may even want to go with a larger size like I did with a 40 gallon breeder tank, for plenty of room for him and for your viewing enjoyment. Best of luck and Happy Holidays.

Thanks. That was just a temporary set upfor him. he was in there for just a couple of days. He has much more space now and lots of places to hide, too.

Great looking king. I to prefer them witrh more white than black as it just enhances the black .
They are a tad crazy around feeding time which is only time I wont handle mine .

so, how did your little brother like Snake?

FunkyRes Dec 23, 2006 12:47 PM

It's down here, but right now, he doesn't know it's down here.
He knows he's getting one and picked based upon pictures, but he thinks I'm not sending down until January. It's in the tank all set up, but the tank is covered and he hopefully won't notice until told where it is tomorrow night (we do gifts christmas eve - mom was born in Germany and that's the tradition there)

Yeah, my family does the Christmas thing on the night of the 24th, too. (from Hungary). Good luck and Happy Holidays!!

Smae here being from Austria. I have always celebrated on the 24th. The whole santa claus thing and Christmas morning is a western thing. In europe they celebrate the birth of the Christ child. No Santa.

Now on another day in november kids get a visit from St. Nicholas (Saint Nicholas day) and maybe that were americans get the santa thing from ..(?)

versustheworld Dec 25, 2006 11:35 PM

Our visit from St Nicholas is on December 6th. I guess he does every part of Europe on a different day? My grandfather used to dress up as Santa Claus till one day when I asked him why he was never around when Santa came. He always went on errands like cutting wood, etc. And then it dawned on me and was very disappointed..

He absolutely loves it.
And it ate for him as well.

It was due to eat (feeding every 4 days) on Thursday but I didn't feed it since it has a 3.5 car ride coming up on Friday, and I wanted him to be able to handle it when he got it. Eating today in its new environment is a good sign.

One of my other little brothers got a baby Okeetee corn at the Sac show in September. It was smaller at that time than my clutch of kings were when they hatched and could only eat the smallest pinkies. But now - she (popped a she, but the tail looks suspiciously boyish to me) must be 14 if not 15 inches long, no longer looks like a worm (putting on some decent girth), and is starting to lose her baby coloring, and is feeding on fuzzies.

It's amazing how fast these snakes grow.

I'm happy for him and all the best with his new bud, Snake. I wish I got a snake for X-Mas, no such luck, though. I'll just have to surprise myself again one of these days.
